About Us
We live in rural Norfolk
in a small village just outside Fakenham, we have three children, Jamie,
Ben and Becky and our family of cats and three gods. Maya and
Buddy who are Leonbergers and Meea who is a Westie. We recently
lost Megan who was also a Leo, she was just under five years old and
sadly died of stomach cancer. More details can be found out about
our dogs and Megan on this website.
Our first pedigree cat was called Tabbitha, she was a lovely silver
tipped, her markings were not quite right for the show bench, she was
more tabby than tipped, but she was beautiful and we all adored her,
when Tabbitha was neutered at 6 months, she sadly died as she did not
come round from the operation. After speaking to her breeder, we
decided to have another kitten to hopefully show and have the odd litter
from. This was when Fenella arrived.
We bred exotics for only a few years as I found lack of time with young
children. In l999, we decidd the time was right and we started to
look at different breeds, I had always loved the Bengal cat and this is
where it really all started - 2000 we had our first Bengal litter.
2005 we had our first litter of British Shorthairs and in 2006 the
Selkirks arrived, our first litter was born the end of 2006, this was
the litter Sarikakings Tiggly Wiggly was born in and our second was the
litter Sarikakings Nextgeneration aka Henry arrived in. Both
kittens have done amazingly well at their kitten shows, Tiggly gained
Best of the Best Kitten at Gateshead and Henry gained Best of the Best
Kitten at two shows, Wolverhampton and Lutterworth. 2007 was our
first year breeding Selkirks and we have done amazingly well with
Tica
We only really show with Tica as we prefer the
open format of the show and think our cats do also, they always seem
very relaxed and enjoy all the attention they get. Tiggly gained
her title of Triple Grand Champion at the age of 9 months and Henry is
hopefully Best Shorthaired Selkirk Kitten Internationally for 07/08 and
16th Best Regional Kitten. This will be confirmed shortly.
We owe a big thank you to Heike and Monika of
Insider Cattery for entrusting
us with their wonderful boy, Insider Alwin of Sarikakings, without Alwin,
we would not be where we are in our breeding programme, and also to Zoe
of Amazolou Cattery, who first
introduced us to Alwin and Heike and helped us bring Alwin into the UK.
We would also like to thank Pamela Anderson of
Curlu, Pam was one of the
first breeders who helped me to start out with this wonderful breed, without
Pam's help, I would certainly not know what I know now and also Lisa
Peterson of Trueblu
(Lisa now resides in Australia) who has been of great help and support,
Lisa was one of the first breeders to bring the Selkirks into the UK.
You can find lots of info about the Selkirks on the
Selkirk Rex Cat Club
website.
Since breeding the Selkirks I have had the pleasure of meeting both Jan
Fagg of Amilynd and Liz
Blagdon of Cleyview, both Jan
and Liz have become really good friends, and have offered lots of
support when needed.
We adore breeding, having kittens around is great fun. It is hard
work, but well worth it.
